Here is a very interesting cephalopod. This is Metalegoceras sp. from the Permian of Timor. There are not many locations in the world where nice Permian cephalopods are found. This cephalopod has been removed from the surrounding rock so that it can be viewed from all angles. It has been polished on both sides for a more spectacular display. The goniatitic sutures of the 3-dimensional cephalopod are nicely exhibited. The red and white coloration of the fossil is quite striking. This is a fine specimen of an unusual Permian cephalopod from an exotic location.
