This is a great specimen of Silurian gastropods. These fossil snails are Platyostoma sp. from the Waldron Shale of Indiana. The quarry where this specimen was found is now filled with water and closed to collecting. There are two nice examples on this plate - one of the gastropods is extremely large. The fossils are very 3-dimensional and exhibit fine detail. The coiling pattern of the mollusks is well defined - even the tiny coils at the tops of the specimens are intact. The fossils have great color and contrast and are well presented on the somewhat traiangular plate of shale. This is an excellent multiple example of Silurian gastropods from a closed location.
