This is an extraordinary insect from the Upper Jurassic of China. Although we are not sure of the identification of this specimen, this LARGE insect looks like a Cicada (Auchenorrhyncha). The head, the fat, segmented body, and the huge wings of the insect are beautifully displayed. The insect has great color and contrast and is well centered on the natural plate of shale. And there is no mistaking what layers this insect is from! There are two partial specimens of Lycoptera fish on the plate. This is one of the most spectacular insects we have seen from this site. This is a very displayable specimen of this unusual insect from the time of the dinosaurs.
