Here is a very unique plate of echinoderms from the Mississippian of Missouri. On the left side of the slab are five inflated examples of Cryptoblastus melo. These melon-shaped, spiraculate blastoids have very nice plate structure and the narrow ambulacra are easily seen. A large Orophocrinus stelliformis is positioned on the right side of the plate. This star-shaped, fissiculate blastoid is an unusual find and highly prized by the local collectors. The off-white color of the fossils contrasts beautifully with the orangish-brown matrix. The echinoderms are well positioned on the rectangular plate of limestone that is loaded with other echinoderm fragments. This is a special plate of two different types of blastoids from the Lower Burlington Formation.
