Here is an interesting fossil from an unusual location. This is a large fossil feather from the Oligocene of Colorado. Bird remains are quite rare in the fossil record - even solitary feathers are very uncommon. This location is well known for the plant fossils that are found there, but feathers are almost unheard of from this site. This feather is quite large and exhibits fine detail. The feather has very good color and contrast and is well positioned on the somewhat rectangular plate of matrix. This is a very nice fossil feather from the Oligocene of Colorado.
