This is a beautiful fossil brachiopod. It is a large Mucrospirifer sp. from Pennsylvania. This specimen is complete with textbook long "wings" intact. The detail is excellent, with the ribbing of the shell easily seen. The natural orange coloring contrasts well with the olive-green matrix. And there are no other fossils on the plate to "clutter it up". This is a very displayable example of this classic type of brachiopod.
