This is a very unusual specimen from the renowned Devonian slate of Bundenbach, Germany. The slate quarries have now closed and the only way to obtain the exquisite fossils from this site is through the dispersal of old collections. There are two different fossils on the plate. The larger fossil is a rarely-seen example of a coiled cephalopod. A very scarce brachiopod is tightly attached to the cephalopod. This specimen shows the coiling pattern of the goniatite in fine fashion. Both fossils are well preserved by iron pyrite or ''fool's gold''. The golden color of the fossils contrasts wonderfully with the dark matrix. The primitive cephalopod is well positioned on the large, natural plate of slate. This is a fine specimen of two highly uncommon fossils from a ''classic'' fossil site.
