Here is a fine Cretaceous ammonite. This is Calycoceras wintoni from Texas. This type of ammonite has very coarse ribs that terminate in large nodes near the wide keel. This cephalopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The ribbing pattern and the nodes are quite evident. This ammonite has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. Both sides of the ammonite are extremely "clean" - the extreme inner whorls are easily seen on both sides. This is a very good example of this uncommon ammonite from Texas.
