This is a very interesting specimen of Clypeus ploti from the Jurassic of England. This type of echinoid is quite famous in geologic history. This genus of echinoid was one of the famous ''pound stones'', one of the first paleontological items studied by William ''Strata'' Smith in the early days. Smith is well-known for being the Father of Stratigraphy. This sea urchin has been polished on top for a better display of the intricate plate structure. The wide ambulacra are easily seen, and the interambulacral plates are well defined. This is a very attractive specimen of a geologically important sea urchin from the Upper Inferior Oolite.
