This is an outstanding ammonite. It is a large Quenstedtoceras sp. from the Jurassic of Russia. This type of cephalopod has wide, coarse ribbing and a rounded keel. This cephalopod is very 3-dimensional and exhibits great detail. The small, inner whorls are clearly defined, and the ribbing pattern is easily seen. The nacreous shell is exquisitely preserved - the beautiful, highly iridescent shell flashes many gorgeous colors. The actual speimen is much more colorful than the photo shows. The ammonite is wonderfully centered on the block of concretionary matrix that is covered with fine pyrite crystals. This is a spectacular display specimen of this Russian ammonite.
