This is a very uncommon multiple plate of ammonites. These cephalopods are Prolylleceras sp. from the Cretaceous of Peru. Usually, these ammonites are found singly and free of matrix. This specimen displays two ammonites on the front side of the plate and several ammonites on the reverse side. This type of cephalopod exhibits extremely strong ribbing and five rows of nodes on the shoulders and the keel. The ammonites are 3-dimensionally preserved and show fine detail. The inner whorls of the ammonites are clearly defined, and the ribbing pattern is easily seen. The plate of black ammonites is totally natural - it has not been composited. This is a very displayable plate of South American ammonites.
