Here is a real rarity. It is a wonderful plate of two different gastropods from the Ordovician of Minnesota. In the middle of the plate is a great specimen of Maclurites. This unusual type of gastropod coils in such a pattern that all the whorls are visible on the flat lower side. An example of Fusispira is located right next to the Maclurites. This type of fossil snail has a more conventional look and is quite 3-dimensional. Although this specimen has been glued back into the depression in which it was found, both gastropods are totally natural to the plate - they are not composited. It is highly unusual to find these two types of snails in such close proximity. This is a great specimen of two different Ordovician gastropods.
