Here is a very large, displayable plate of fossils from the Mississippian of Illinois. There are 15 blastoids, Pentremites sp., plus a brachiopod and a solitary coral on the slab. There are at least two different species of Pentremites present on this plate. One type has a very short pelvis, while the other kind has an elongated pelvis. The blastoids are very ''clean'' and exhibit wonderful detail. The plate structure of these primitive echinoderms is superb and the ambulacra are well defined. Even the small spiracles at the tops of the blastoids are easily seen. At the top of the plate is an unidentified brachiopod that exhibits fine growth lines. Near the bottom of the slab is an unidentified horn coral that is complete to the very tip. The fossils have great color and contrast and are well positioned on the huge plate of shale. This is an exciting plate of Mississippian fossils from Illinois.
