Here is an excellent fossil Oreodont skull. Oreodonts were extinct herding animals, similar to sheep, that roamed the western plains of the United States. This is Merycoidodon culbertsoni from the Oligocene of South Dakota. This large skull is complete and very 3-dimensionally preserved. It has been meticulously prepared on all sides so it can be viewed from any angle. The lower jaws are nicely articulated and the teeth display extremely well. The skull sits on a custom-made stand with a beautiful wood base. This is a very appealing and displayable specimen of an Oreodont skull from the Oligocene.
