This is a unique, museum quality arthropod fossil. It is a Mecochirus longimanus from the Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. This specimen comes from a major 30+ year-old German Collection. The lobster was collected from the original Malm zeta Lithographic Limestone quarry in Solnhofen (not Eichstatt!), which hasn't been working for decades. The unique feature of this fossil is that not only is there a complete lobster preserved, but also his last footsteps! As you can see, the lobster walked backwards on the sea floor bottom, and left a trackway as it walked. It then stopped abruptly and died in place, leaving a record of its last stroll etched in time. The quality of the lobster is excellent - all of its features are beautifully preserved, especially the LONG periopods (grasping arms). But the intact trackway makes this a one-of-a-kind fossil. It even comes with the original wooden mount board and original 30+ year-old German labels. It is an extremely collectible Solnhofen arthropod that has an incredibly rare "Death Trail" preserved. (Second photo included to show trackway better)
