This is a very unusual Mammoth fossil. It is a partial lower jaw from the Woolly Mammoth, Mammuthus primigenius. This specimen was found in the same area that was featured in the Discovery Channel special, ''Raising the Mammoth''. The jaw has a complete tooth intact and tightly rooted in the jaw. This is a rare find - usually only loose teeth are found. Another unusual feature of this jaw is that it is from a juvenile! The tooth measures only 3.5 inches from front to back and the entire jaw section is only thirteen inches long! The smaller size makes this fossil very space-efficient, yet impressive. This is a great specimen of a baby Mammoth fossil from near the Arctic Circle.
