This is a gorgeous ammonite. It is a Simbirskites sp. from the Cretaceous of Russia. This type of ammonite is coarsely ribbed and has a very rounded keel. Extremely prominent nodes are present on the shoulder of this thick-bodied ammonite. This specimen is very 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The inner whorls of the ammonite are easily seen and the sharp nodes on the shoulder are intact. The lustrous nacre of the shell has great iridescent color and contrasts nicely with the lighter-colored matrix. The ammonite is beautifully centered on the large, sculpted block of concretionary stone. This is a very displayable specimen of this unusual ammonite from Russia.
