This is an outstanding fossil crab. It is a large Cancer arancana from the Oligocene of Chile. This crab was found in a very hard, dense concretion. Half of the concretion has been painstakingly removed to reveal this wonderful fossil. Preparation of a specimen like this is quite laborious, to say the least. The crab is 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits great detail. The carapace, BOTH claws, and most of the legs are intact and beautifully displayed. The fossil has excellent color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered in the concretionary matrix. This is a very complete and impressive specimen of a fossil crab from South America.
