Here is an excellent fossil eurypterid. It is a complete Eurypterus remipes from the Silurian of New York. Eurypterus remipes has been designated the State Fossil of New York, and is one of the most unusual arthropods in the fossil record. Eurypterids were thought to be one of the first aquatic animals to explore onto land. This specimen is complete with both paddles fully intact. Many of the "walking arms" are preserved and the long telson (tailspine) is quite distinct. And best of all, there is NO RESTORATION to this wonderful specimen. The ''sea scorpion'' has beautiful color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of matrix that also contains another partial specimen. This is a very displayable example of this strange arthropod.
