This is a specimen of a belemnite, Hibolites hastatus, from the Jurassic of Germany. A belemnite was a squid-like animal, closely related to a modern day cuttlefish. The matrix plate has been cut and polished. The fossil has great contrast with the matrix. This is a nice specimen of a belemnite from Germany.
