Here are two very detailed insects on a plate of shale. This specimen is from the Green River Formation of Utah. On the left side of the plate is a great specimen of a rare fossil cricket. This insect has excellent detail. The head, body, and long legs of the cricket are easily seen. On the right side of the plate is a nice example of a fossil mosquito. The head, long body, and thin wings of the mosquito are quite evident. The insects have good color and contrast. The fossils are well positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is a fine association plate of two different insects from the Eocene.
