This is a very nice double specimen of Chancelloria pentacta from the Middle Cambrian of Utah. This type of animal is sort of an enigma, and has been found in the Burgess Shale fauna. It was first thought to be a "glass sponge", but it has now been described as a "coeloscleritophoran". Both of the examples on this plate have great form and exhibit fine detail - the star-shaped sclerites are easily seen. The reddish-orange color of the fossils is totally natural, and they contrast beautifully with the grayish matrix. They are well positioned on the plate of shale that also contains some partial Agnostid trilobites. This is a very interesting double specimen of this unusual Cambrian animal.
