This is a beautiful brachiopod specimen from the Devonian of Ohio. There are two examples of Mediospirifer audaculus composited on this plate. Both brachiopods have both valves intact and tightly articulated. The fossils are EXTREMELY inflated and exhibit fine detail. The tips of the ''wings'' are intact, and the coarse radial ornamentation is easily seen. The brachiopods have been replaced by iron pyrite or ''fool's gold'', and the golden coloration is quite spectacular. This is a very pretty specimen of brachiopods from the famous Silica Shale.
