This is an extremely attractive ammonite. It is a Cleoniceras cleon from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This type of ammonite has faint ribbing and a somewhat sharp keel. This large specimen is quite inflated and almost totally free of matrix. The inner whorls of the ammonite are easily seen. The thick, nacreous shell is present on one side of the ammonite and exhibits a myriad of beautiful colors. It is quite unusual to find this ammonite with the iridescent shell intact. The other side displays the intricate suture pattern in fine fashion. This is a beautiful specimen of Cleoniceras with gorgeous, natural coloration.
