This is a rare fossil. It is a Lepidesthes colletti echinoid (sea urchin) from Crawfordsville, Indiana. This locality is famous for crinoids, but only occasionally is a complete echinoid unearthed. This specimen is complete and has good natural shape. The plate structure and detail are easily seen. And the "Aristotle's Lantern" (mouth/teeth) is intact and excellently preserved. This is a very collectible and displayable Mississippian echinoid.
