Here is an interesting plate of fossils. This specimen is from the Eocene of Utah. On the left side of the plate is a fossil feather. As you know, bird remains are very unusual in the fossil record. Under magnification, this feather exhibits extraordinary detail. On the right side of the plate is a nice specimen of Populus wilmattae, a poplar leaf. This leaf is complete and displays a very long petiole. The venation of the leaf is quite evident. The fossils have great color and contrast nicely with the light colored matrix. They are well centered on the matrix plate. This is a very aesthetic specimen of a fossil feather and a leaf on the same plate.
