This is a large fossil feather from the Green River Formation of Utah. Bird remains are rare in the fossil record. A specimen such as this is very out of the ordinary. This feather exhibits fabulous detail. There is an unidentified fossil seed also on the plate. The fossils have wonderful dark color and contrast nicely with the light tannish-gray matrix. The feather is almost perfectly centered on the semi-rectangular block of matrix. This is an excellent specimen of a fossil feather from the Eocene.
