This is a very pretty specimen of Paraspirifer bownockeri from the world-famous Silica Shale of Ohio. The two brachiopods have been dipped in acid ( to reveal the iron pyrite replacement) and then reattached to the piece of matrix in which they were found. The brachiopods are extremely 3-dimensional and reveal both articulated valves. The "golden" fossils contrast very nicely with the gray shale matrix. This is a beautiful brachiopod display specimen from this famous site.
