This is an unusual fossil starfish. It is an Euzonosoma tischbeinianum from Bundenbach, Germany. Fossils from this site are famous because they are found in slate that eventually became roofing shingles. This specimen is very large - 5.5 inches across. It has all five arms intact, which is rare for this type of starfish. The detail is excellent, and the star is nicely centered on the roofing shingle. This is a fabulous fossil starfish from a classic European locality.
