This is a very collectible fossil. It is actual body hair from the Wooly Mammoth, Mammuthus primigenius. This "wool" was found in the same area that was featured in the Discovery Channel special, "Raising the Mammoth". As you can inagine, only under perfect conditions can actual Wooly Mammoth hair be preserved. This clump of hair probably came from the Mammoth's side or back, as the hair is long and coarse (see close-up photo for details). There is enough hair present to make for a fine specimen. This is a very unique fossil that is extremely hard to obtain.
