This is a beautiful multiple plate of Pentremites sp. from the Mississippian of Illinois. There are at least two different species of Pentremites on this plate. One type has a very short pelvis, while the other kind has an elongated pelvis. The blastoids exhibit excellent detail. The plate structure is well defined and the ambulacra are wonderfully preserved. There is also a "spirifer-type" brachiopod on the plate. Both valves are present and the coarse ribbing pattern of the brachiopod is nicely displayed. A large crinoid stem is present on the piece. The fossils are extremely 3-dimensional and they have great color and contrast. They are nicely positioned on the natural plate of matrix. This is a very interesting assemblage of fossils from the Ridenhower Formation.
