This is a very nice specimen of Isorthoceras sociale from the Ordovician of Iowa. This is an example of a primitive straight-shelled cephalopod known as a nautiloid. This well-preserved specimen is 3-dimensional and centered in the limestone matrix block. The simple, straight suture pattern is quite evident. This is a very displayable specimen of this primitive cephalopod from Iowa.
