Bison bison Hump Vertebra Age: Pleistocene Formation: Ice Age Glaciation Location: Nebraska Size: Vertebra is over 20 inches high This specimen is not for sale Click here for similar specimens that are for sale
This is a very unusual vertebrate fossil. It is a large Bison (buffalo) vertebra from the Ice Age deposits of Nebraska. This vertebra was located right behind the head of the Bison, where the "hump" of the Bison is located. The LONG process on this vertebra gave the Bison its hump! (the photo shows the vert laying on its side.) This specimen is fully complete - even the knob at the top of the process is intact! This is a wonderful collector fossil which makes for a great conversation piece.
