Here is a large fossil mosquito from the Green River Shale of Utah. This insect exhibits tremendous detail. The head, body, and wings are all easily seen. Under magnification, the segmentation of the body and the venation of the wings is quite evident. Even the antennae of the beast are revealed. The mosquito is beautifully posed with the wings totally outstretched. The fossil insect has good color and contrast. It is well centered on the natural plate of shale. This is a very nice specimen of a fragile mosquito from the Eocene.
