This is a beautiful brittlestar fossil. It is a large Furcaster palaeoziocus from the famous Bundenbach slate quarries. Since the quarries have closed, the only way to acquire specimens is from old collections. This specimen IS from an old German collection. The huge (4.6 inches!) brittlestar is complete with all five LONG arms intact. It is very well-preserved on a large slate roofing shingle. The star has extremely fine detail and displays in a very unique, aesthetic pose. The beautiful golden coloration is absolutely striking, due to the fact that it is replaced with pyrite. This is a museum quality brittlestar fossil from the classic Bundenbach locality.
