This is a very striking ammonite. It is a Cleoniceras cleon from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This ammonite has been cut in half and both halves have been highly polished. The coiling pattern of the ammonite is easily seen, and the individual chambers are wonderfully defined. Many of the chambers are hollow and filled with tiny calcite crystals like miniature geodes. Even the back sides of the ammonite have been polished, and some of the intricate suture pattern is quite noticeable. The unusual blond color is totally natural and makes for a stunning display. This is a beautiful ammonite with uncommon coloration.
