This is a gorgeous ammonite. It is a Cosmoceras proniae from the Jurassic of Russia. This type of ammonite has many, many ribs and a sharp keel. This specimen is very 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The ribbing pattern is quite evident, and the inner whorls of the ammonite are easily seen. The nacreous shell of the cephalopod is intact, and the reddish, iridescent coloration is just wonderful. The fossil is beautifully centered on the sculpted plate of concretionary matrix. This is a very displayable example of Cosmoceras from Russia.
