Here is a very displayable fossil bivalve. This is an extremely large Chesapecten nefrens from the famous Calvert Area of Maryland. This scallop has both halves of the shell intact and tightly articulated. Both of the long "ears" of this fossil clam are unusually complete. One side of the fossil shell exhibits the coarse radial ornamentation in beautiful fashion. Some large fossil barnacles are still tightly attached to the other side of the shell, making for a very unique display. This is a very impressive Miocene fossil from a renowned area.
