This is a very displayable plate of blastoids. These are Pentremites sp. from the Mississippian of Illinois. There are 17 blastoids (of at least two different species) on this slab. All of these blastoids are extremely inflated and exhibit wonderful detail. The plate structure of the blastoids is superb, and the wide ambulacra are clearly defined. Even the individual ''food grooves'' of the ambulacra are easily seen. The cream-colored fossils contrast beautifully with the yellowish matrix. The blastoids are well presented on the huge plate of shale that also contains many, many bryozoans. This is a spectacular plate of these primitive echinoderms from the Age of Crinoids.
