This is a great specimen of a fossil bivalve. It is a large Aequipecten sp. from the Pliocene of Florida. This mollusk has both valves intact, and both sides of the specimen are very ''clean'' and display beautifully. The fossil pecten has the valves slightly open and the sandstone matrix is almost completely filling the area between the valves. This ancient shell exhibits wonderful detail. The coarse radial corrugations are clearly defined, and the fine growth lines are easily seen. The ''ears'' of the bivalve are wonderfully intact, and the off-white coloration of the fossil is quite striking. This is an excellent example of this large bivalve from Florida.
