Here is an unusual Coal Age fossil. This is a Polychaete Worm from the Pennsylvanian of Illinois. This famous location (Pit 11) has been closed to collecting for a number of years. Worms are not commonly preserved as fossils due to the absence of hard parts. There are only a few places in the world where fossil worms are found. This fossil is well preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion are intact so both part and counterpart of the fossil are present. The fossil has very good color and contrast and the fine detail of the worm is just wonderful. This is an excellent example of an unusual fossil worm from the Pennsylvanian.
