This is a very nice vertebrate fossil. It is a fine example of a jaw from Hyracodon nebrascensis, an Oligocene rhino. This specimen was found many years ago in the Brule Formation of South Dakota. This jaw is extremely well preserved, and three wonderful teeth are still firmly embedded in the jaw. In addition, an unerupted tooth can be easily seen. The dark brown teeth exhibit very little wear and contrast beautifully with the light-colored bone. The jaw is totally free of matrix and displays beautifully from either side. This is a very fine example of a jaw with teeth from this extinct North American rhino.
