Here is an outstanding brittlestar that we recently acquired from an old German collection. This is Geocoma carinata from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. Complete brittlestars are quite rare in the fossil record due to the delicate nature of the extremely thin arms. This large specimen is wonderfully complete - the large central disc is easily seen, and all five sinuous arms are intact to the tiny, tiny tips. The fine detail of the fossil is just exquisite - even the individual plates of the slender arms are clearly defined. The brittlestar has great, natural color and contrast and is well centered on the rectangular plate of lithographic limestone. This is a museum-quality brittlestar that displays beautifully.
