Here is a gorgeous ammonite. This is an uncommon Deshayesites imitator from the Cretaceous of Russia. This type of ammonite has faint ribbing and a rounded keel. This 3-dimensional specimen is quite large (5.5 inches) and exhibits great detail. The ribbing pattern is easily seen, and the tiny inner coils are clearly defined. Almost all of the nacreous shell is intact which is extremely unusual, and the iridescent coloration of the ammonite is very striking. The ammonite is well centered on the large block of concretionary matrix. This is a beautiful display specimen of this hard-to-find Russian ammonite.
