This is a beautiful specimen of a regular echinoid. It is an Arbacia sloani from the Pliocene of South Carolina. This echinoid is very 3-dimensional and exhibits excellent detail. The plate structure is just incredible. Under magnification, each plate displays a rugose or striated surface. This sea urchin displays the ambulacra beautifully and has rows of prominent tubercles on each side of the ambulacra. Both sides of the sea urchin are intact and well preserved.
