Here is a highly collectible fossil. This is Stenophlebia latreillei, a dragonfly, from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. As you can imagine, only under perfect conditions can such a delicate creature be fossilized. Dragonflies are probably the most desirable invertebrate fossils from this unique site. This specimen displays the head, body, and all four wings in textbook position. The fossil has great color and contrast and is beautifully presented on the rectangular plate of lithographic limestone - quite suitable for framing. This is an excellent example of a large, fragile insect from the time of the dinosaurs.
