This is a very displayable ammonite. It is a Cosmoceras proniae from the Jurassic of Russia. This type of ammonite has many distinct ribs and a sharp keel. This specimen is very 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The ribbing pattern is quite evident, and the inner whorls of the ammonite are easily seen. The nacreous shell of the cephalopod is intact, and the gorgeous, iridescent coloration is just stunning (much more attractive than the picture). The fossil is beautifully perched on the block of concretionary matrix. This is a very colorful specimen of Cosmoceras from Russia.
