This is a beautiful fossil brittlestar. It is a Furcaster palaeoziocus from the famous Bundenbach slate quarries of Germany. Since the quarries have closed, the only way to acquire specimens is from old collections. This specimen IS from an old German collection. The large (over 4 inches!) brittlestar is well preserved with all five LONG arms prominently displayed. The star has extremely fine detail and displays in a very unique, aesthetic pose. The fossil has been replaced with iron pyrite or ''fool's gold'', and is wonderfully centered on the large plate of roofing slate. This is a great example of a fossil brittlestar from one of the most famous fossil localities in the world.
