There is no mistaking the identity of this specimen. This is an excellent fossil grasshopper from the Cretaceous of Brazil. Grasshoppers are not commonly found in the fossil record. This insect exhibits very fine detail. The head, body, legs, and wings are quite evident. One can even see the venation of the wings. The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. The insect is well presented on the semi-rectangular plate. This is a terrific specimen of a fossil grasshopper from the Cretaceous.
