This is a beautiful ammonite. It is a large Cosmoceras proniae from the Jurassic of Russia. This type of ammonite has many distinct ribs and a fairly sharp keel. This specimen is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The ribbing pattern is quite evident, and the tiny, inner whorls of the ammonite are easily seen. The nacreous shell of the cephalopod is very iridescent and flashes many gorgeous colors. The fossil is wonderfully perched on the block of concretionary matrix that is covered with sparkling pyrite crystals. This is a very displayable specimen of Cosmoceras from Russia.
